Cenhydra lutris Sea Otter Seeotter Sea otters on the west coast of Vancouver Island live mostly within a mile of the shore. They eat, sleep, breed and give birth in the sea. Sea otters are great users of tools. When they dive for food, they also bring up a small rock. They can then float on their backs, place the rock on their chest and crack shells against it.
