The bird is fond of mistletoe berries found in desert areas. It has a specialized digestive apparatus to process great numbers of these berries by rapidly removing skin of fruit. Pulp of mistletoe berry is sticky and Phainopepla may consume about 1,000 berries per day. Female, Portal, Arizona, USA
