Monotropa uniflora

Indian Pipe

Indianerpfeife

This plant occurs in the Himalayas, Japan, and North and Central America. The roots of the indian-pipe are connected via fungi from nearby coniferous trees. In the Straits Salish languages, the name for Indian-pipe means 'wolf's urine' and it is said to grow wherever a wolf urinates. Comox Valley, Vancouver Island, BC. Canada
